how to reduce latency?
« on: October 16, 2011, 07:33:49 pm »
I'm enjoying my Arturia keyboard and Analog Player software, but suffering a noticeable latency between pressing a key and hearing the sound out of the speakers. This makes it nearly impossible to effectively play live, or with drums.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, quad core processor, 6 GB memory, and an M-Audio C400 Fast Track interface.

There are lots of internet search results on "soft synth latency" but their advice about adjusting buffers and using ASIO drivers gets confusing fast. You basically have to already know how to reduce latency in order to figure out how to reduce latency...

Any advice on addressing latency specifically with Windows and Arturia Analog Player? Thanks

I have this same problem, and I know many others too.
I'm wondering how powerful computer I need in order to play normally (I really thought my system could have taken it). With even a bit of latency it's really hard to play.
Reducing the 'audio buffer size' does a bit, but you can't reduce it too much because it makes the sounds sound reeeally bad (and creepy). I have it around 1000 samples, going lower than that you start hearing it. Only a few presets can be played wth almost no latency.

If it's a problem you cannot fix because of the software is made that way, please tell. Tired of looking for solution.

Should I get like a better sound card, then lower sample rate and it would still sound good? Or what? Help me. Help us.
