MIDI Assign/Learn function not working - M-Audio Oxygen 25

When attempting to assign controllers, I cannot get the assign box to appear on computer.  I set the keyboard function to "control assign", hold it down, then click on knob(left or right), but nothing happens.  Any ideas?  Thanks.
