Question regarding leaving MiniBrute turned on
« on: January 22, 2013, 10:32:19 pm »
Hi all,

This is probably more of a general  analog question, as I have never owned an analog synth before.

Do I need to be worried at all about leaving the MiniBrute on for extended periods of time, say for 3, 4, or even more hours at a time?  Would this "wear out" the instrument faster? oscillators, etc? I work at home and often will play around on the MiniBrute during slower times when I can get away from work, so obviously it's more convenient to just leave it on rather than switching on and off throughout the day (which I would also be concerned if THAT would be detrimental in any way to keep turning it on and off).

Again, I don't really know how all this works, and maybe this is not an issue to be worried about at all.  Any insight or suggestion that can be provided would be much appreciated! (Specifically in my case, is it better to simply leave it on for a length of time, or to turn on and off multiple times during the day when I can actually use it).

Thanks much!

I can't imagine it would be built so that it would be an issue.  If the power circuits are all well-designed, there shouldn't be any problem, but it would require probably a pretty major screwup to cause otherwise.

I often have it running for hours at a time.  Don't worry about it.

Yeah, I think analog electronics generally "like" being left on.

living it turned on between multiple session is not an issue, it's ever better for components aging to leave it on few hours, instead of switching On/Off very offen.
But living the machine on all the time is not a goo idea neither. Some components, especially capacitors, do have a specified life time. If you don't use the machine for a long time, switch it off.
