Prophet V first impressions
« on: March 09, 2006, 10:01:19 am »
Hi,

I've been playing with the demo for a few hours now and wow, that's a niece piece of music sofware : as usual with arturia, the sound is deep, warm and rich  :P The GUI is vey nice : what a pleasure to see the synth swithching from one mode to the other. It is user-friendly and features lots of great presets. This demo will work fully for fifteen days so I have yet some cool time to tweak the sounds and even make a track using it yeah  8)

Oh damn, I hadn't noticed I can only load the prophet 20 times and right now, I have only 6 left  :(
As for the CPU charge, I'd say it's correct, same as the previous TAE synths.

Oops, too late, the demo has expired
I found a minor bug regarding the JMB_Analog_Like preset in VS mode : when you play a second note while holding the first one, the former keeps playing.

I confirm the bug which occurs in JMB_analog_like.

Otherwise sound is really great. :D

Now the problem is what CPU to use? Because if assignation
is setup to CIRC (as on original machine),
some patches like LC_swellpad in  prophet VS mode, bring CPU to 100% very soon.

Right, the sound is really great, I love it, maybe my favourite synth among the 5 Tae based emulations. Too bad I can't benefit from the special offer but in some way, that's fair cause the vintage collection was far less expensive than the sum of the 4 synths bought separately. Though, a little talk with my beloved wife and there should be a solution to my problem very soon

I just received my prophetV this morning.

Nothing to against about sound quality, it's really high quality.

Now, about emulation subject, something important is missing
in Prophet VS. (or I didn't find it, but I don't think so).
The wave numbers start at 32, and we can't access waves 0 to 31.
These waves are supposed to be user waves uploaded by the
user to the ProphetVS. They seemed "forget"this part.
Hope in a next version we will have this possibility.
In the manual I didn't see anything about this.

A user wave is supposed to be 128 samples of 12 bits.
What would be great in the next version it's they provide a
small wave editor which could from any existing wave,
edit this wave on screen, then produce a sysex file which
contains the 128 samples of 12 bits.
Then this sysex could be imported inside the prophetV, but could
be imported inside a real prophetVS too.

Then to be more faithfull to the real VS: chorus should be applied
to left, right or left+right, instead of always left+right (it's just a detail).

Right, I noticed that too and I thought there would be more details in the manual.

Nice feature request  :) Have you got a "real" Prophet VS ?

Yes I have a prophet VS rack. :D
Prophet VS is a very good synth, it has the digital good
side, and analog sound because except the waves, everything
are analogs.
But it's full of curtis CEM, and some are impossible to find,
hope mine will live forever. :)

Look this reply by Gavin Burke of Arturia

It seems that the demo licence has been extended to 2 weeks without limitations, the post explains how to do it.

You can get around the hanging notes bug by changing the keyboard mode to anything except "Reset".  The hanging notes only occur in "Reset" mode.
