Question: can the Beatstep Pro record unquantized?
« on: May 26, 2020, 08:58:31 am »
Hello,

I'm new here and am studying to make a buying decision. I posted the question in the Keystep Pro forum in an existing thread but thought I may have more luck here.

Basically, I wonder if I can play a performance with my MIDI controller and record it in the Beatstep Pro, unquantized, including recording flams and ratchet notes. I understood the KSP can do that but reading the BSP manual, it seems not. It seems that it quantizes everything to 1 note per step. Is that so?

Kind regards,
Amaury

No, the BSP is locked to the grid.  You can shift the drums by up to half a step either way of the step they are recorded to for a more natural swing than the traditional computerised swing sequencers use, but that is a manual function you need to do after recording.
Currently running https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1311723 / www.modulargrid.net, sequencing with KSP and recording with a Zoom (no DAW involved, for better or worse ;) )
