Sequencer Gate when using the ADSR/AD Trigger
« on: July 18, 2018, 08:49:21 pm »
Another difference with my microbrute.  If I'm running sequences using the envelopes rather than a gate to trigger the notes, it seems like there is a big difference with how the notes ring out if I change the gate length.  Its not the same way with the microbrute and maybe it's intentional because envelopes behave differently depending on how long the note is pressed...

What is the best gate length to use? Opinions?  Any insights would be appreciated.

Hi Van der Waal,

Not sure to understand what the question here.
With a MicroBrute in gate mode your VCA will be opened with no attack decay or release. When you use an Env to modulate VCA you can have various behaviours depending on the settings of the ADSR or AD.
With the minibrute 2 you can change the gate length using the sequencer (shift + left part of the keyboard) and also change Env using AD env.
AD env has 2 modes :
Gate:
The AD Envelope starts when a note is played/triggered
and proceeds to maximum level at the Attack rate.
The amplifier sustains at maximum level until the note is released,
and then the envelope enters the Decay stage.
The envelope will not reset completely to zero if another note is triggered before the Decay stage has ended;
it will resume the attack stage of the amplitude envelope and proceed to maximum level at the Attack rate.
From manual p39 :
Trig:
The AD Envelope starts when a note is played/triggered. There is no sustain stage ; the envelope enters the Decay stage after the
Attack time has been fulfilled. The full envelope will run unless another note is triggered,at which time
the amplitude resets to zero and the envelope starts again.

You can also modulate the VCA with any modulator using the patchbay.
I don't know if I answered you question here. Feel free to get back to me if you have further questions.

Depending on what the gate length is on the sequencer, when the ADSR/AD is in trigger mode, it seems to affect out the note ultimately rings out.  I have been bypassing the AD envelope and using the ADSR because i'm more used to that, maybe that has something to do with it.

Thanks

Hi Van der Waal,
Sorry but I really don't understand what disturbs you ?
Could you please give me more details ?
