Microbrute and Drumbrute updates

I have purchased Microbrute and Drumbrute I am a Nube and am learning some new vocabulary words.
Will these instruments require updates? What happens if I dont update these analog machines ? My intention is to sync them together in  time. Unfortunately I dont really know what the term firmware means or midi control center? Can these things be downloaded onto windows 8.

Yes. On Arturia's website, navigate to the Downloads and Manuals tab, then find your instruments and click on each corresponding link for the firmware updates. Firmware is just an update for your instruments. It will add some new features, as well as address bugs they have fixed. Or, you could just download the Midi Control Center (or Microbrute Connection) and download and update all from within the GUI (graphical user interface). I recommend the latter, as it is simpler and you will want these programs regardless of if you want the firmware updates.
