kits/settings not saving in ableton

i think this may have been addressed before but i can't find it.

i'm running ableton live 9.7.1 on a mac.  have up to date spark 2 and CDM controller with up to date firmware.

about half the time spark isn't saving the kit/settings within ableton like a normal vsti.   i recall a project and the sequence patterns sounds etc. are all gone and it defaults to (really nice sounding) 909 kit and it's default pattern. 

what procedure/s do i need to undertake to make sure the work i've done in spark in an ableton project is saved when i close the file?

Hi, If you use the standalone and then change a project   when you close down and reopen does that project come back up or does it default back.
