Stopping the sequencer?
« on: May 18, 2016, 01:17:36 pm »
I am thinking of getting an Arturia Beatstep Pro and have a basic question:
If I had the sequencer hooked up to a keyboard, would I be able to quickly stop the sequence and continue playing the keyboard manually myself, or would there be a pause?
In other words, can you play the keyboard immediately after stopping the sequencer?
Thanks in advance!

That should work just fine. The only issue I'd see is getting your timing down so it sounds smooth. I'd do it like this:

1) Sequence is playing on synth
2) While sequence is playing hit the next pattern button on the BSP to go to a blank pattern for that instrument
3) The pattern continues playing until the end, at which point it automatically switches to the next (blank) pattern, effectively stopping the BSP from sending midi data to that synth
4) Start jamming on the keyboard when you're ready

You could also do it by just hitting the mute button on the BSP when you want the pattern to stop, but I like using the pattern switching method because it doesn't require you to time it perfectly.
