MIDI 2 Synths Simultaneously
« on: November 03, 2015, 10:38:19 pm »
Since there's only one MIDI out on the device, I was wondering if anyone knew a good solution to sending out 2 different midi sequences to 2 different synths with the Beatstep Pro?

Or even a thru port if one of your synths has one...

you can even use an headphone 1<2 audiosplitter with the both Midi-jack adapters from BSP !

Can you tell me if there are any power issues using this method? I'm going to try tonight anyway but trying to visualize voltage drops when splitting.

Update: Using devices requiring power at the power pin, there is some degradation and cause issues. If all the modules you have hooked up provide their own power at their MIDI ports you should be good to go. In short, TRS to TRS Y cable is a good alternative to a thru box but YMMV.

The y-splitter is a fairly nutso idea, but then again I do the same to my cv signals all the time, as well as merging them (merging them is fairly sketchy if your synth only handles 0 - 5v DO SO AT OWN RISK).  I'd definitely NOT merge a midi signal using that method.
Currently running https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1311723 / www.modulargrid.net, sequencing with KSP and recording with a Zoom (no DAW involved, for better or worse ;) )
