BSP in CLK slave mode. Midi out clock is not synced
« on: August 15, 2015, 06:29:04 am »
I have an old school Roland CR-5000 driving the clock to the BSP.  All devices downstream via the Clock Out synchronize nicely.

I can't get any of my hardware to respond via the Midi out (tried 3 devices).  If I change clock source to INT then my devices respond to midi clock works fine.

My ER1, for example, will respond to the PLAY button no problem, and the tempo will display --- (as if its getting external clock), but the steps don't move.

Midi Control Center is receiving In: F8 | Ch 0 in time with the external clock via USB.

I just tested with Midi OX via Midi to USB, and the input monitor does receive F8 synced to the external clock.

I've tried changing the Clock IN/OUT settings, but the 1 step setting is the only one that drives the BSP with reasonable speed (24ppq requires 32nd notes to be functional, 48 is useless)  Both settings drive the same clock out commands.

F8 is the timing clock according to the MIDI spec (11111000 in binary).

Is it impossible to send midi clock messages synced to the CLK master?  Is there a known glitch with this functionality?

I really want to be able use my drum machine as the master clock, and drive downstream devices via both midi clock and the clock output.

Thank you

Was really hoping this would be fixed with the new firmware.  Sadly, no.  I posted this to the post regarding the update:

Clock sync no longer functions at all for me on the new firmware.

I tested the signal from my CR5000, into the BSP, to my mixer so I could hear the pulse.

I select clock mode, hit play, nothing.  No sound.

Roll back to the previous firmware, works without issue.

I was looking forward to this release hoping Arturia would fix the issue with syncing external analog clock to midi time code.

Now I kind of just want my money back.  Is there an older firmware floating around that has this functionality?  I don't really care about using it with a computer, so whatever updates the new firmware brings aren't terribly relevant to me.

I want to midi slave my pro to a Korg ES-1, then run midi out of my pro to sequence my volcas and a micro. I noticed if I start and stop and start and stop the ES-1 a few times eventually they sync proper. Otherwise it never works.

This whole thing completely demotivates me to try anything musical. I'm losing so much work time.

Yeah, I am about to return mine. What a shame, so much potential but Arturia needed to take serious that their device wouldn't be the master clock and they've failed to do so.
