Control mode & pads

Hi guys,
I'm new to the beatstep pro and my first try was using it with reaktor standalone. (Already Did the firmAre update)
I thought I could play the pads in control mode like in sequencer mode but nothing happens when I hit them. Is it a normal behaviour?
So I do not understand exactly what the control mode is supposed to do, is it mainly about controlling DAWS?

OK, I just did not setup properly the MIDI ports in the control center: default is MIDI and I needed USB of course...
