Gate not controlling sequencer

Hey I have my Roland tr606 going into the minibrute. It is affecting the LFO but I can't get it to influence the sequencer in any way. I read some posts and can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I definitely watched a YouTube vid of a 606 controlling a minibrute sequencer so I know it's possible. Sorry  I'm really new to triggering synths.

Just to add more detail to my situation, here's a screen grab of my settings. When I switch it Step On to "gate" the play function stops working on the brute. I assume I should just keep it on CLK.
