Trigger Envelope via Audio In
« on: March 16, 2014, 07:00:05 am »
The manual seems to say that the envelope can be triggered in some way via the audio input.  Am I reading this correctly?  If so, how does that work?

Plug Audio input in. Patch cable ENV to FILTER. Move ENVELOPE sliders.

There shouldn't be any need to patch the envelope to the filter since the envelope is pre-patched to the filter and the Metalizer. Just turn up the ENV Amt knob in the Filter section.

lectrix,

have you been able to get this to work? i also have been hoping that sentence in the manual isn't a typo, because i'd like to process some external sounds using the envelope, but haven't been successful.. looks like additional hardware is probably needed?

on the plus side, running gate out to gate in on the rear panel works fine for me at letting the audio through. it just won't trigger the envelope. you can make some very cool sounds automating the filter by turning up keyboard tracking and running a sequence, turn glide up to smooth out the transitions. still, i'd rather get that envelope working.

cheers

The audio in is a bit bewildering to me.  I can get external audio to come through the microbrute, but can only hear the external audio when a key is pushed on the microbrute.  I have heard there is a way to essentially use the microbrute as a filter for external audio, but if I always have to mix in the brute's signal, that defeats the point.

@letrixboogaloo - the input signal has to be pretty hot for the envelope follower to work
@Gunung - there's a gate switch on the back, put it to Ext

If you just want to use the Brute to filter external inputs and don't want to have to hold keys down or use the internal voice, turn all the Brute's oscillator knobs down and patch gate out to gate in. Hit a key and you should have infinite sustain (this is also a great trick for drones).
