Controlling MMV as plugin on Audio with MIDI

Hi

I have read around a bit trying to figure out how this is done but i still cant get it working.
Any help with be super appreciated.

I am trying to alter an audio drum loop with my MMV. I load up an audio track with the drum loop on it and then I put the MMV as an effect in the "inserts" on the audio track.

I can get the audio feeding through the Mg and everything sounds good - but how do i go about actually controlling the MMV effect with my MIDI keyboard (not the virtual keyboard in the MMV) and recording these changes in real time?

I have been at it for ages and am going cookoo bananas
