SPARKLE Factory Sounds Crashing Sonar X3 and Live 9
« on: April 15, 2014, 07:31:56 pm »
Hi Guys, I've been having this problem since day one, and was hoping 2.0 would fix it, but to no avail.

While in Sonar or Live (both 32 and 64bit) if I'm flipping through the factory sounds (during play back),

certain factory kits / sounds crash the DAW  when I try and load them (Circuit Freqs for example).

This does not appear to be a problem in stand alone mode, and only when in a DAW.

Does not matter if the controller is connected or not.

I've tried many things like different Spark versions (re-installs deleting the kits first),

different DAW latency settings, etc.   Is this perhaps something to do with PDC?

Or, being that it's only certain kits, perhaps it's do to different sample rates than my DAWs engine is set to?
(throwing this out there, as my audio driver is often messed after the crash.  Have the latest RME driver installed)

I'm on windows 8.1 with 8GB RAM, FX-8320 CPU, and RME Fireface 400.

The factory library is on my SSD along with my OS and APS.  I am willing to re-install windows

to make sure there is no crap left behind, but before I do that, any thoughts?

Much obliged,
Tomek

I experienced a few crashes with factory presets too in 1.72, although never with ones I'd saved myself. v2 is still a beta but is being actively worked on right now, working towards its release. I would report this and any v2 bugs directly to the beta team. That way they will get addressed so we can have a lovely stable v2 upon release :)

Big thanks for checking Ben!

I think something is messed on my system, because when it takes a dump it also

crashes my audio driver at times.  I have to disable and re-enable it to get correct playback going.

Specifically I click to load the project and crash.  Whats interesting for me is that it does

not appear to be a corrupt sound / project due to the re-installs, and it only happens within DAW.

Don't want to waste your time, so  I'm going to re-install my OS and try with a clean start.

Much obliged!

please excuse my ignorance but I'm having some problems with eLicenser.

I've re-installed windows 8.1, then Spark 2.0, then eLicenser.

Problem is my SparkLE activation code is 16 characters long,

and eLicenser wants one which is 32 characters long.

I was able to activate SparkLE with my 16 character code,

but only by running it as Admin (otherwise it would crash on launch).

I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong, but what am I missing here?

I'm hoping by getting eLicenser 6.7.18144 the 32 character code it wants

Spark 2.0 will no longer crash when flipping through the factory library in standalone mode (now).

Thoughts?

Cheers, Tomek

You don't need e-licencer with Spark 2. Just enter your code and go.

For your non-admin crash is it an error message about Library folder ?

Sorry Ben, wish I'd taken note.

Now that it took my code (by running as Admin) it launches fine.

I'll un-install / re-install to try and re-create.  brb..

Below is the error I get after re-install (with and without controller connected),

trying to launch for the 1st time.  Again launches fine when running as admin for the 1st time.

Subsequent launches do not require "Admin".  Also, it did not ask for auth code on 2nd install.

OH!! FORGOT TO MENTION!!!  I am not installing into the default paths.

I was installing everything into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Shared VSTi\Spark".

Perhaps that has something to do with it...  Let me try default path to see if that

changes things.  I can imagine the OS does not like the library in Program Files directory.  brb

(Maybe we should move this thread to the Beta section?)

Thanks Team,
Tomek

Yep, that was it!  re-installed SPARK, and put the library into another folder (drive),

and problem on launch in gone.  Note to Self / ALL.  Do not put the library into "Program Files".

(probably says that during install doesn't it?  LOL)

Now lets see if that had anything to do with my crashes when flipping through the  Project library in DAW...

I would imagine it does, as you can't run a VSTi as Admin, unless I run Sonar as such, but still might barf.

Doh!  Still crashed (in stand alone) when clicking on Dub Lab 2.

Mind you, on quick inspection, overall it does appear more stable in and out of DAW.

Please let me know if there is anything you would like me to try.

More than happy to assist.

Sincerely,
Tomek

PS - UAC has been completely off the entire time.

Managed to get through 3/4 of the factory sets without a crash in Sonar X3,

so HUGE improvement, but still not quite there...
