Spark as a midi controller for vst
« on: June 09, 2012, 02:18:24 pm »
Hi,

I tried to use Spark as a midicontroller in ableton live an I did all the steps from the manual

To use your SPARK Controller as MIDI controller, Press [Filter] + [Slicer] +[Roller] (then
open public MIDI port or connect a MIDI cable to MIDI Out).

New mappings can be saved as Template Files using the File > Save command. In order for a template to be active on Spark controller you need to send your template to Spark controller with 'Action > Send to Spark Controller' command.

I tried every midi port and I also tried the ableton live template, but when I use "midi learn" from my VSTs nothing happens? Does anyone have an advise, please?

Thank you and best regards,

Klaus

Hi,
Did you enable both track and remote input in Ableton preferences?

Hi Kevin,

I did following steps:

- I opened "Spark midi control center" and I opened the "Ableton Live Template"
- Then I used "send to spark controller" and then I closed the "Spark midi control center"
- I opend up Ableton Live and activated the Midi Port "Input: Spark Controller" (track and remote enabled)
- I pressed [Filter] + [Slicer] +[Roller] on the controller
- I opened up an vst and used the "midi learn" function to use the "cut off" of the spark controller for the "filter cut off" of the vst
- Everytime I move the "cut off" from spark now, the vst "cut off" just moves a little bit. So there seems to be a signal?

Best regards,

Klaus

In ableton template, the knobs are sending relative CC.
Probably your vst is not supporting it.
There are 2 solutions:
- assign the knob to cutoff of your vst inside ableton (not the knob inside your vst but in the ableton list of parameters)
- change the knob mode to absolute in Spark MCC

NICE! The absolute mode was the trick!  :D

Thank you Kevin!
