Global Tuning (VST Plugin)
« on: June 18, 2007, 10:43:51 pm »
Since I'm in the mood to ask possibly dumb questions:

How do you tune the CS-80V plugin globally? I mean, if you're trying to add a part to a client mix and they are more than a few cents short of A=440 Hz... is there a global tune option?

Obviously there is something because I've seen posts refer to it. How do you do it?

unfortunately, there is no 'global tune' command yet... I agree that it will be veeeeeeeeeeery useful. This should come with the next update.

For global tuning, click on the TAE logo to open the Detune Panel and adjust the General knob.

I had no idea you could do that! I guess I could have clicked there by accident but I guess I never did.

Thanks guys! Perfect. Also I see the option to show the value of the control in a popup box, and now I see that right-clicking is a "fine adjustment". I had no idea that that was what was happening.

This is great. That was my next question.

by the way would be usefull to be able to detune each of the 16 VCO, instead of each of the 8 voices, to be more close to the original. 8)

you're right, but you can already detune the 8 voices cards...isn't it enough?

It's better than nothing of course, but one of the specificities of a CS80
sound, and it's warmth, is partly provided by the detune of each M-Board
(each VCO). Sound, needs to be a bit more dirty.

on the Yamaha CS80 you have 1 master voltage,  5 tuning pots (4-  (1 per each footage)) and 1 per keyboard range calibration,  ....per each oscillator(80 adjusters)....each oscillator also has its own vca mixer levels(5 adjustments), ADSR amplitude, calibration and length adjustments(3 adj), HPF, Res, LPF, Res (4 adj),ADSR filter depth, calibration and length adjustments(3 more),

alltogether, on 1 Osc (m Card) there are 21 pots to adjust.... there are 16 m Cards.....And then there are the trigger cards, sub cards ring mod,Noise,Pulsewave, Chorus, Mixer ,vol / wah,Initial and Aftertouch for VCA And Filter.....some having 20 or more Adjustments per......

OKay, just back to the oscillator M cards... tuning(80 adjustments) for pitch,(112 adj) in filters and EG,(128 adj) in mix, Amp and EG,.....

Be greatfull you only need to adjust 8 of them and the panel 2 detune

Ok, but each of 16 m-board are not detuned in the same way on
the original. What I say looks a bit unusefull maybe, but could be heared.
There are still many others improvements to do of course but
I think this one wouldn't be so heavy for Arturia.

I think you would only be able to tell 16 tuning controllers from 8 plus a master Channel 2 detune,  playing "single notes" repeating the same note over and over(listening to the "beating" differences between paired panel oscillators....the reason I say the same note is the beating oscillation would change speed exponentially every octave) so osc 1 and 9, might be in tune with each other 2 and 10 might be flat on the 2nd panel....etcetera....

I believe with chording, you wont be able to distinguish 8 controls from 16 controlls with the master panel 2 detune....

On a real CS I don't use channel 2 detune so often.
A real CS is supposed to be mostly untuned and not regularily.
But it's a very small amount of untune.
The channel 2 detune IMHO is too heavy for such function.
