Self noise?
« on: May 15, 2023, 11:04:56 pm »
I feel like my MiniFreak has a really noticeable amount of self noise. Even when no key is pressed. I tried to find out what is responsible for that.
It's not the filter and not the fx (disabled all the fx). It might have something to do with oscs and the envelope. Switching from Poly to Mono seemed to decrease the amount of white noise. I'm not even sure If I have a faulty device. Can anyone confirm this? Turn up the master output all the way and see If you can hear some white noise. It's noticeable at about 80 Volume going from headphone jack straight to my headphones nothing inbetween. Try it with the init patch for instance.

I made a recording of the noise with almost no gain applied directly from the minifreak into my interface.
Going from Init -> Preset 1 -> Preset 5 -> Preset 111.

Hello kuuki,
I'm sorry to hear that.
Yes the MiniFreak has some background noise and it's part of it's character.
Preset 5 and Preset 111 are emphazing this, by the use of distortion.
I've listened to your recording and i don't think this is a faulty unit.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I know it's part analog so I expected some noise. I was confused that it's noticeable even when the oscs are completely turned down in volume and no fx are enabled. So is the noise created by the analog vca? Does the envelope have anything to do with that?

Again thanks for clearing that up
