I've been playing a Yamaha MOXF6 synth for years but the MiniFreak is way better!
I'm pretty much a noob to real synthesis.

There's a bit of a learning curve. I understand the presets, Oscillators, AF and Effects sections.
The LFO and Envelope / Cycling Envelope + Mod Matrix are proving more difficult for me.
Been reading the manual and watching the tutorials (multiple times), and taking Notes.
Could someone please point me to a good tutorial for the Mod Matrix?

I use a Sipario midi router to configure a rig with:

Yamaha MOXF6 (internal voices and as a midi controller)
Yamaha Reface CP (midi in with MOXF)
Yamaha Reface YC (midi in with MOXF and directly as an upper / lower manual)
Arturia MiniFreak (mostly direct play but also midi in with the MOXF)

Everything plays nice together!

I'm thinking about adding a MicroFreak to the stack.
The keybed seems like it would allow for different dynamics.
Is learning how to navigate the Mod Matrix on the MicroFreak any simpler?

The basic operation of the mod matrix in both the MicroFreak and MiniFreak is the same.

The main difference is that the MiniFreak has 3 pages with 3 user assignable destinations for a total of 9, whereas the MicroFreak has only 3 user assignable destinations. The MiniFreak can also assign some "hidden" destinations that aren't on the synth's panel. But let's leave those details for later, when you have the basic operation down.

Since they're so similar, you might as well watch some tutorials for the MicroFreak's mod matrix.

Here's a two part YouTube tutorial by AutomaticGainsay (Marc Doty):

I just finished video 1 and thank you, that's exactly what I was looking for.

I like the way the Micro allows modulation control by the amount of surface area touched on keys and the Mini allows mod control by Velocity / AT. I did some experimentation with my Mini and I totally get the Mod Matrix now! I'll watch video 2 after I get through playing around with what I learned.

Incidentally, I went through some videos on subtractive, additive and FM synthesis and highly recommend a good understanding of what these are, and the controls that serve them, to get the most out of this unit.

I ordered a Micro as it looks like the perfect companion for the Mini.
