25' USB Cable that works with PB
« on: February 17, 2022, 01:59:08 am »
Hi all,

I found a long 25' active USB cable that works with my PB, so I thought I would share the link:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BFRKYSU?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

My PB is across the room from my computer.  The company offers longer lengths but I have not tested them.

I've tried other long passive cables without success.

Enjoy!
John

Nice find. I didn't even know such a thing existed, I just assumed 3m was the limit. In a home studio sometimes it's a real challenge to ensure everything is less than 3m from the USB socket. Say you have to position a midi keyboard or controller at the side of your desk, 2m of the 3m quickly gets swallowed-up sending the cable neatly round the back of the desk.

Yes! Active repeater cables are great. I also use one for my MatrixBrute

In theory 5m plain old cable (no active repeater) is the max length for USB 1.0/2.0, but in real life there are some hosts and devices that are too wimpy. I have a laptop that can do 3m, but not 5m, so YMMV.

Also in theory, you can chain active repeater cables if you really need to go far. To stay within specs, there should be a repeater every 5m.

Here's a 100 feet USB 3.0 one...
