Legato playing keyboard using CV/Gate

Is this possible, or is it an oversight? I can't play legato from the keyboard using CV and gate: no matter what, a gate is re-sent every time a different key is pressed. I've tried changing the sequencer from Poly to Mono but it still doesn't work.
