Note lenght in the drum sequenzer via Midi
« on: October 31, 2016, 11:51:38 am »
Hello,
I have a problem with the drum sequencer. Even with maximum gate lenght the note-off is set to early after the note-on. So legato is impossible, long drums notes are cutted off. I recorded the events of the beatstep pro drum sequencer in renoise and made some sceenshots. You can see the position of the note-off in the attached image beatstep-behaviour.jpg. The result I expected in the other jpeg. The note-off should directly be before the next event. I attached a very short mp3 file, to show the significant difference in sound.
Is there a solution?
If not, I would like to see this feature in a firware update.

Best regards

Terrym

Hi, The drum sequencer is designed to be a drum trigger. so note lengths as small. The reason for this is to stop overlapping notes occurring . which may lead to the next drum not triggering. This is important when using the trigger outs. As you can see from my screenshot below there is some length in using gate .

Hi Terrym,

thanks for your response. What you say about about the trigger outs is true. But the MIDI out is an other case. There is no need for short impulses, if you dont want them. It should be possible, to set the note-off as late as possible. At the moment I do not have any control over the sound, if I play a kit, I designed in my DAW. The range for the note length via MIDI now is from extreme short (gate 1) to short (gate 100). Most of my sounds are cutted off. One can hear it in the uploaded mp3 file. This is a surprising restriction for a drum sequencer.
Dont you think there should be a possibility to set the note-off late or get a possibility to disable note-off via control center or sysex in the drum sequencer MIDI section?

DRUM SEQUENCER MIDI-OUT
As I described in my former post, the note-off from the drum sequencer is set very early, even the gate is set up to 100.
I made a recording of the MIDI Signals:
Gate is set to 1
You see, the note-off is one tick after the note-off. Thats normal.

So here my really basic questions to the arturia team:
Is there a possibillity to make the gap between the note-off an the next note.on smaller?
If not, is it planned to change this behaviour in the next firmware updates?

I would welcome your response,
Best

Hi,

I just bought the Beatstep Pro for my hardware drum machine (tr-9090) I'm having the same issue. The notes are cut-off way to early via midi and it's renders the completly beatstep useless for me even thought it's supposed to be able to sequence drums. Do you have a fix in the near future for this, or do i need to change to a different sequencer ?

Thanks
Fredrik
