Speech oscillator word table

Here's a table mapping Knob values and CC values to words for the Speech oscillator.

The Wave knob selects the category.
The Timbre knob adjusts the formant.
The Shape knob selects the word within the category

The shown Shape values are rounded up to the nearest integer value (because it was impossible to match the values in the synth precisely in the source spreadsheet (strange rounding/truncating/whatever in the synth) and it  gives less clutter in the table).

The category (Wave) parameter has hysteresis and the table shows the values going upwards (you have to go past the shown value when going downwards to hit the previous category). The CCs work fine in this respect.

Below is an ASCII table, and there's a PDF file attached.


The table columns are the category/formant/vowels/words, the parameter values and the CC values.

The two first sections are for the Wave and Timbre parameters and the remaining sections are for the Shape parameter for each  category.

When I first saw this document it led me to believe I could construct my own words and possibly create sentences given the data. After messing with it for a while and looking for a way to do this I'm at a dead end. Is assigning an oscillator to the shape parameter the only way to deviate the word content ? It seems you should be able to construct your own word lists/phrases based on the letter and phonetic info above. Am I missing something here that's obvious to others ?

Given the letter and phonetic info. is listed in the document how do I use it construct a custom word or phrase ?

This was answered over at GS, I'll just cut& paste the answer  here:

There's nothing there or in the manual or elsewhere that indicates that the speech oscillator is for building words or sentences.

However, what you can do is to use the sequencer with e.g. a modulation track that controls Shape for word selection. You could use another mod track to control Wave for word category. The sequencer then becomes your word list.

Or you can even do as in this 303 example, using Pressure to modulate Shape.
