Would it be possible to have a setting to allow the Microfreaks sound engine to be controlled externally by midi, while it’s own keyboard could be used to control Eurorack modules by its cv/gate outputs. Essentially turning it into sound module and Eurorack controller in one mode.

Local off? (Utility menu, MIDI)

Ah yes, I didn’t realise that’s what local did, although it’s a pity you can’t use the controls to edit the sound, oh well, that’s probably my Keystep going back in its box for a while 😉

That works with midi, but not with the cv/gate outputs, the merely echo the incoming midi signal. So it’s nearly there.

Ahh... nearly there indeed... You could use a separate MIDI to CV box, but of course that's en extra piece of gear/expense/complication.
A feature to make the CV/Gate follow the keyboard in "local off" mode would be good to allow for the workflow you're after. E.g. a "local on/off" setting in the CV/Gate menu as well as in the MIDI menu.

There are several feature requests about the CV output. Should the CV output reflecting the keyboard and midi input or the quantised notes/pitch modulation etc.
So maybe a setting to choose what the CV out of the pitch CV should reflected:
- (USB)Midi input
- KBD input
- Both
- Seq/Arp
There should then be the option to choose if it mirrors the “raw” input or if it outputs the changed pitch including Scale settings and pitch modulation in the mod matrix etc.
