Title: Volca beats vs beatstep pro - Help needed
Post by: jonauringgrimm on August 14, 2018, 09:00:40 pm
Dear all

I hope you can help. I’ve been struggling with this for some time.
I wish to assign the drumsounds from the korg volca beat to the drum section on the beatstep pro.
1.   I made sure that the midi channel is 10 on both
2.   I made sure that short messages is turned on on the volca beats
3.   I've also turned the clock to internal
4.   I’ve set the drum map to custom and assigned each pad from 1-16. (is that correct?) (I tried the other options as well, just in case)
using this sceme to:
36 - - Kick
38 - - Snare
43 - - Lo Tom
50 - - Hi Tom
42 - - Closed Hat
46 -  - Open Hat
39 -  - Clap
75 -  - Claves
67 - - Agogo
49 - - Crash
(See the attached screenshot if I'm being unclear)

What am I doing wrong? I’ve tried a bunch of things.
Do I need to do something in the ControllerMap?
Sorry I’m really at a lose here, so any information or maybe a settings file would be helpful.
And please don't be afraid to dumb it down. I’m fairly new to working with anything else but analog.

Thank you all in advance

Change the drum map to user in MCC.  You can assign any MIDI note to any pad with the user drum map.

I tried at least 3 different versions of the user defined mapping today, no success.

Same settings as the OP has, Kick on C1, C2, whatever - nothing.

What changed since 2018? do I have to try a 4th, 5th, 6th mapping? This took me 6 hours now, I am tired. I am not sure if it's the summer heat or if I am just under a bad spell.

Have you changed the Volca to RX Short Message?  Have you both the drum map and the Volca on the same channel.  If you want to make sure all is good before you disconnect from MCC, open the MIDI Console view and check that when you hit the pads that they are indeed sending what you want.
