Title: Syncing Beatstep Pro and Volca via Clock: When will an update make it work?
Post by: nabelschau on February 01, 2016, 10:13:56 pm
If I look at other posts, the problem seems to be well known: The BSP does not have clock settings that fit the Volcas. It would be absolutely great if a firmware update of the BSP would enable proper syncing with the popular Volca series! Is this on the agenda, Arturia? When will it be working? I need the BSP's Midi Out for another machine and don't want to buy a Midi Thru box just for syncing.

Kind regards...

The specs for the KeyStep list 2ppq sync as one of the sync options.

Well, I'm not going to buy another device. Making a firmware update for the BeatStep which adds 2 ppq doesn't seem like rocket science, does it?

Please Arturia!

I'm not suggesting you do.  Maybe I should have added that the fact they are listing that functionally could indicate that it's something Arturia can implement on their other "Step" products.

In the mean time, why not set up a drum track to feed your device with a 2ppq click track?  I do it with my Rhythm Wolf and it works fine.  You can also run custom swing templates by not sending a straight 4/4, 2/4 or 1/4 pattern to trigger your box.  You can mute and unmute the single pad running the sync track to stop and start the device using this method independent of the transport controls too.

I'm looking forward to the update as well, but using a drum gate out can work (as megamarkd said).
I've also had luck using a 4MS clock divider with the BSP's clock sync out.

An ElectroHarmonix Clockworx would work too.  I'm considering one of them for some polyrhythm goodness.
I recently got a TE Pocket Operator and have been clocking it from my Volca Beats (which I'm running via midi)

As per my post on another thread here (http://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=87458.msg132018#msg132018) I was able to create a clock divider using a patchblocks unit that works well enough for me
