Title: Beatstep pro & Korg MS10
Post by: rezozvuk on May 08, 2015, 04:48:42 am
Hi.
I am wondering whether this device works correctly with the standard CV/GATE out using for Korg MS10,
if I am not mistaken it beatstep pro CV/GATE out = V/Oct
while the old Korg MS10 uses CV/GATE in = Hz/V
thank you!

it should work with the addition of the sq1 from korg which has both hz/v and V/oct. i am not sure if it act as a converter but is also has midi.

You can use CV out from the Beatstep to the "VCO Freq" jack on the MS-10 and turn up the "Frequency Modulation  EG/EXT" knob to about 3/4. You need to figure out the exact amount needed for your synth. That knob is not very precise, but if you're lucky you can get it to track ok.

For the trig you need to reverse the gate signal from the Beatstep, because the older Korg uses S-trig. You can buy a converter cable or build it yourself (http://www.doepfer.de/faq/gen_faq.htm#S-Trig (http://www.doepfer.de/faq/gen_faq.htm#S-Trig))

Good luck!

BeatStepPro will handle
- S-trigg and V-trigg
- Volts/octave and Htz/Volts

So no problems !

Is that either or or can each track / part be either ?

you can set each sequence to either volts or htz on the mcc and save it to the BSP

Nice .
I'll go ahead and request all these settings to be either hardware controllable or midi cc controllable or both ;)

Here's a tutorial from Arturia relating to the MS20. Might help.

Let me add this little tidbit on the SQ-1 just in case you're considering dropping it from consideration. No hardware MIDI Din In on the SQ-1 but you DO have full MIDI I/O over USB. By default CV/Gate-A is on MIDI ch 1 and B is on ch 2. So the SQ-1 does act as a MIDI to CV converter when stopped. I use it this way all the time with keyboard controllers as well as Electribes. Getting USB MIDI into the SQ-1 is as easy as connecting it to a thru box that supports USB clients or hosting it on a powered USB hub on an iConnectMIDI4+ or Audio4+.

Example: If you slave its clock to a BeatStep Pro you now have two more pair of CV/Gate outs and can modulate yourself into a coma state :)

Or just use the sync I/O and go au natural.
