Hello,
I have a Keylab 49 with Cubase Pro 8. I always turn on the Keylab prior to starting Cubase, but still, it never works straight away. I can press notes or turn knobs, but there is no MIDI activity reported in Cubase. I always have to go to "Devices > Device Setup" in Cubase, and press the "Send Reset Message to all Devices" button in the upper left corner of the "Device Setup" window. Then, I need to quit Cubase and restart it. Only then, Cubase receives the MIDI messages from the Keylab. I don't have this problem with other MIDI keyboards... Could you help me fix this, please?
Thanks,
-
Please...

I did not observe this with the keylab 88, but using USB. It's always powered before I start cubase.
In cubase I've configured it as midi in and out so it can communicate with analog lab for instance.
Even the transport section works after configuring it as mmc slave.

Thanks. I did a factory reset (Octave + / Octave - /Power ON), and it seems that the problem was solved...

And the problem came back today ::)

Hi , Are you on osx .if so please could you try deleting the driver ,go to applications and find in utilities audio midi setup app , open this and in the midi studio find the kl driver and delete it from the edit menu .
makes sure its not connected at this point.
relaunch AL and plug in your kl and connect
see if this helps

Thanks. I'm on Win 7 x64...

When it's not working could you try to select the Keylab as midi input of your Midi or Instrument track instead of "All MIDI input" default.
-
Thanks. I selected "Keylab 49" in the track input selection instead of "All inputs". Still, no MIDI activity when I press key notes.

Weird...I have no problem here on 7 test machines...
Do you plug your keylab on a front panel USB port ?
When you check listed devices in "Device Setup" menu do you see that your keylab is connected when it's not working ?
-
The Keylab is connected to a rear USB port. Yes, in the list of MIDI devices in the "Device Setup" window, the Keylab is connected and active, albeit not working.

Did you update Cubase 8 to latest version 8.0.5 ?
If you're with the latest version of Cubase 8 you can try to check if it's not a driver problem.
Go to your Windows "Device Manager" and uninstall your keylab (it should be listed in Sound, Video and game controllers)
Then reboot your Keylab.
If this doesn't help i'll suggest you to contact steinberg support...I

I updated Cubase to 8.0.5, I uninstalled the Keylab from the Device Manager in Windows, and restarted the keyboard. It looks like the problem is now solved. Thanks! ;)

Hello, the problem has come back this week :-\
I'm using the latest version of Cubase, and the keyboard has been uninstalled from the Device Manager...
Any idea? Thanks.
-
Strange...
Cubase Update fix the problem last time...
Did you change something on your computer lately ?
-
No, no update since then.
-
When you use any plug in standalone your keylab is well detected ?
You can try to uninstall your Keylab from the device manager.
Under Sound, video and game controllers uninstall the KL.
The unplug it and reboot.
Plug your keylab again and check if it's better.
If that doesn't help you please contact Steinberg support about it as i guess this is not a problem on our side...(i might be wrong)

Thanks! Will do...

Hello, I just got the reply from Steinberg...They say the problem comes from the keyboard:
Thanks a lot for your mail.
You are right, there is no way to set up Cubase to send the reset message automatically on start up. I am sorry, but this something Arturia needs to fix.
Best regards,

Hi Goa Travellers,
Hummm...
This problem is very strange indeed.
Could you try on another usb port ?
With another USB cable ?
No USB hub !!
In order to check if the problem comes really from the keylab it would be interesting to connect it to another computer with Cubase 8.
Do you have an other computer to test that ?
If the keylab is working great with all other soft i really don't get what is the problem with Cubase 8.
I don't get the message of Steinberg Support ... what is this reset message stuff ?
-
Hi! Thank you. So, I tried on other USB ports (no USB hub), same problem. Also, I tried with a different USB cable, same problem.
I tried the Keylab on a different computer, also with Cubase 8, however, I don't have this problem on this 2nd computer ???
I don't know if this is a hardware incompatibility issue on my 1st computer, or if it's a software misconfiguration...I don't know what do do at this point...

Hello, if this can be of any use in the future, I'm sharing the solution I found: In the BIOS settings of my ASUS Z97-PRO mobo, under the USB advanced settings, I set "Intel xHCI mode" from "Smart Auto" to "Enabled". I restarted my computer and tested the USB keyboard with Cubase several times. It seems that the problem hasn't shown up anymore. Thank you.
