Title: What kind of gate signal do I need to trigger the sequencer from Electribe ES-1?

Is it even possible? Ideally I would like to send a sound out through the right channel (with the other samples going through the left), which is plugged into the microbrute's gate in, advancing the sequencer whenever the note appears in the ES-1 sequencer. Just wondering if I need a specific kind of sound to do this, since a very short pitched up bassdrum didn't seem to do the trick (but the mere act of plugging something into the gate input advanced the sequencer). Any ideas?
