I noticed there are REX files available in Spark 2.0. I've seen this term thrown around but I am not sure what is the difference between these and Wav. files. Would someone be able to explain what REX files are used for, how they are utilized in Spark and also other applications? Thank you.

A REX file is a sample with embedded slice markers that include their relative timings and the original (or estimated) tempo.
This allows to play that "sample" file as a loop at different BPMs without affecting the pitch of each slice or alternatively you can change the pitch of the slices without changing its tempo, because it's the slice triggering that's being locked to tempo, not the overall sample playing rate, which would be the traditional way to play a sample (loop) slower or faster.
