Title: Optimizing Windows 7 DAW for audio
Post by: baxterdavid on April 16, 2014, 05:54:51 am
Anyone got any tips/tricks they'd like to share on how to get the best performance for audio on a Windows 7 based DAW?

Or is there a site similar to TweakXP.com? I've searched, but found nothing.

Many thanks...

To be honest I do very little these days beyond disbaling DEP, setting processor scheduling to background services and keeping an eye on the msconfig/startup list. I also use this:

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/smart-a-utility-for-tweaking-windows-7-vista-xp-services

with the safe setting to disable infrequently used services.

Lot's of guides say to disable Aero etc which basically turns W7 into something that feels like Win98 which I personally can't handle, I've never noticed it causing any issues running Cubase.

+1   if you have a dedicated GPU I wouldn't worry about the graphics settings either.

You can also have a peek at the DCP Latency checker.
