Title: Dongle question
Post by: Gothboy on June 20, 2009, 08:36:13 pm
Why is a dongle needed for the ProphetV and not the 2600V?  I don't have one and have been avoiding getting one...but I like the ProphetV and I'm considering getting it if they fix the PT issues.

The ARP2600 V has no dongle (yet) because it was released long before Arturia introduced the dongle copy protection (called eLicenser). BRASS was the first product with a dongle and after that, all products have this kind of copy protection.

I think it looks obvious that all "old" instruments will get an eLicenser sooner or later.

OK, what if I buy the 2600V before that?  Will I need the dongle for updates?

Protection system migration is painless/costless for the user, as we turn our older synths to Soft-eLicenser system (virtual dongle). However, for an increased comfort of use, the USB-eLicenser (hardware dongle) is compatible, i.e. you can transfer or directly download your license on it.
