Title: Midi control centre update for Windows 7
Post by: joshgrn on May 31, 2023, 04:35:43 am
Will there be an update for mcc for Windows 7 so ludites like me can load the new firmware onto the microfreak?

Same. Can't believe Arturia expect users to update a perfectly function OS in order to update firmware on a synth.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect continued development for OSes that have been defunct for many years. Windows 7 is no longer support by Microsoft as of January 14 2020. Windows 10 has been out since July 29 2015.

I also like to hang on to good OS installations, but I got Windows 10 many years ago. I recommend you guys doing that update as Win 10 is a great improvement on Win 7, and if you want to run today's software, it's the baseline OS.  Of course you could go straight for Win 11, although I'm holding that one off for a while yet myself... The end of Microsoft support for Windows 10 is October 14 2025.

Here's an explanation from Arturia:

All previous versions of the MCC have run just fine on Win 7. All it has to do is fire a bit of firmware code at the MF. I'm no coder but I'd be surprised if this was a major effort in the face of MS withdrawing support several years prior to Arturia's last working updater for this OS.

I get the impression they just can't be bothered.

I think that's an unfair assessment.

Please read the the explanation from Arturia, and it should be clear:

TL;DR : They can no longer sign new versions of the MIDI driver. Still, there's a workaround by disabling the signature check. Here (https://www.google.com/search?q=disable+driver+signature+check+on+Windows+7) is how to do that (proceed at your own risk!).
