Title: Clock being sent when slaved even when no clock is received on Midi IN!

I'm having an issue where the Keystep is sending out clock even though it is not receiving clock via the Midi In!
I have set the sync switches to Midi and I simply want to use the Midi In as a thru for a midi controller (I've enabled Midi Thru in control center). Everything is working except that my gear goes nuts because they receive doubled clock signal because I cannot make the Keystep stop sending sync when slaved.

Please, please, please tell me that I'm an idiot and that this is not a major design flaw. The Keystep should surely not send any midi clock when slaved and it does not receive any!?
