Title: BSP connection with Mutant Brain
Post by: xhsi on December 21, 2018, 03:23:24 pm
Hi

I am trying to connect the beatstep pro to the Hexinverter Mutant Brain.
I use it to connect the Drumpads 9-16 to my modular.
Tigger inputs are no problem but i would like to have the velocity of some drumpads (9-12) linked to the 4 CV outputs of the Mutant brain.

If somebody knows how i have to set this up..
Thanks

The BSP drum sequencer will transmit note, velocity and gate time via MIDI on whichever channel you have assigned it.
You should maybe inquire with Hexinverter if they have a template for using the BSP with their Mutant Brain as what you are asking is entirely dependant on the module's MIDI configuration.  They may have software for you to make custom configurations for sequencers they have not created a template for, I don't know.  Check out their website and what resources they have available for the module.

yes I have contacted them already
they have a few settings for common synthesizers and drummachines but not for the Beatstep Pro.

The Mutant Brain is configured by the MutantBrain surgery app which is an Online app.
I just cant figure out how i should rout the Cv outputs to get the velocity value of the drumpads.

The support said I should ask Arturia for a MIDI implementation chart.

Thanks a lot

Ah right.  The drum sequencer doesn't output velocity CV, only gates for pads 1-8 (the bottom row from left to right respectively).  The gates are high for the time the drum gate is open for and the high voltage is 10v.  Can't see where you would plug gate and velocity CV's into the Mutant Brain though, the only jack points on it are all outputs.
The MIDI velocity is the standard MIDI velocity message that accompanies the MIDI note-on message on the channel you set the drum sequencer to and has no CC number assigned to it the same as a regular drum machine sequencer MIDI output would work.  Without looking at the Surgery app I'd assume that you'd use the it to assign various MIDI note velocities and gate times to the many outputs on the modules.  If that is the case, connect your BSP to Arturia's MIDI Control Centre software and take note of what MIDI notes you have assigned the BSP pads to send, then go into the Surgery app and assign them to a velocity and gate output.
