Title: Parameter locks
Post by: Eggnchips on July 19, 2018, 10:06:54 am
Elektron style parameter locks to each step would be nice.

Which parameters?  There are only pitch and velocity.  You have 'parameter' lock on everything already, just not realtime recording of it, but do you want to ride velocity dials in realtime and record those tweaks?

As a midi controller and a step sequencer, it would be nice to be able to lock some of the midi parameters to the steps i.e. a filter sweep  or a release setting.

If the sequencing of midi cc was added into control mode then we would have parameter locks.

If we could set rotary encoder values per-step that would be enough.
Scene mode would have to be disabled or remapped for this to work.

I don't see why this wouldn't be possible.

This is a wonderful idea, but falls down when you think about how it will actually work.  Right now the sequencers relay three bits of MIDI data: note-on/off (gate), note number (pitch) and velocity.  Y'all are going to want to replace those with CC's and be able to change those CC's on the fly, no doubt.  Without redesigning the whole interface workflow, how would you change the CC assigned to the sequence when not tethered to a computer?  Being stuck with the same three CC's to sequence really then makes that sequencer tied to whatever synth the CC's were setup for.  S'okay if you use all gear from one company like, say, Waldorf, to an extent, as the CC's do change too much from synth to synth, but still the Blofeld throws a blanket over that fire.
A Controller Change sequencer is a bloody unreal idea and you gotta wonder why NOBODY has done it before.  So you wonder about why they haven't and you realise what I explained above.  Squarp's Pyramid does it, along with a couple of others, but they are all in the 1000aud+ range.  It cost a lot of money to workout how to implement in-the-box control and configuring of these functions.  Visit the Squarp forums for a sneak peek into the the world of sequencers that try to be everything to everyone.

Thanks for the explanation megamarkd :) Is workflow the main issue?

Without redesigning the whole interface workflow, how would you change the CC assigned to the sequence when not tethered to a computer?

As you point out, you would be stuck using preset CC assignments, but
what if the pads could be used to indicate which CC you want to use
(in a similar fashion to the drum tracks on the drum sequencer)?
You would then have 16 assignable CC presets to chose from.

Seeing as MIDI CC is assignable to the pads, do you think that would be feasible?

I really would love to see sequencing capability for control mode,
combined with the last step feature it would open up many new rhythmic possibilities for the other sequencers.
