Title: [AUDIO MOD] VCO1 < Noise > VCF1 weirdness
Post by: Howard Scarr on May 20, 2017, 05:54:20 pm
Starting at the centre detent, turning this knob to the left gives me AM (not FM). Correct FM (strangely with positive DC offset!) only kicks in if I turn the knob counter-clockwise _through the centre detent_.

The other function (VCF1 FM) works fine, and has a negative DC offset.

Can anyone confirm the above, or is my MatrixBrute unique? ;-)
I have no trouble with the DC, but I think the AM thing could/should be fixed.

(BTW Modulation of this knob is strictly VCO1 or VCF1, positive only for each one... i.e. you can't modulate through the centre detent.)

There is indeed something strange going on. I'm not getting a steady DC effect here, as knob position affecting pitch in a steady manner (is that what you get?). However I observe 2 things, using self oscillation of the filter to clearly hear the effects:

1 - When turning the knob out of the center detent it gives a little DC'ish spike before reaching the zone where the modulation takes effect. That spike can not be held it seems, it just goes "uuuubiiiuuuu", decreasing in pitch as I pass through that point, and when turning it back to land at the detent again, I get the same spike only increasing in pitch.

2 - VCF 1 is being modulated instead of VCO 1 when I (a) go to the left of the detent, then exactly to the detent, then to the left of the detent again. This can be 'cancelled' by (b) going once to the right of the detent, then to the left of the detent (now VCO 1 is being modulated as it should be). After that, action a can be repeated.

This bug is 100% reproducible here.

"affecting pitch in a steady manner"
That's the DC at work. If the knob ONLY controlled FM modulation depth from noise, it wouldn't send the pitch up.

"2 - VCF 1 is being modulated instead of VCO 1"
Aha! I'll check... yes, that's it.

Same here ... I checked the different pot modes "jump", "hook", and "scale". All the same. Should be a software bug only and easy to fix ;)

Hi guys,
Indeed it looks a lot like a software bug, and it has been logged as such.
Thanks for reporting it!

Hi,

I purchased a Matrixbrute last week and noticed a bug with the [AUDIO MOD] VCO1 < Noise > VCF1 knob, I was happy to find I'm not alone when I came across this post on the forum. I can also reproduce the bug on my Matrixbrute, it happens every time I use this knob.

The knob only works properly if I move it a bit to the right first (from 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock) and then move it to the left (past 12 o'clock) to get VCO1 modulated by the Noise source. If I start in the exact middle (12 o'clock default position for the knob) and move left normally to get VCO1 modulated by the Noise source, it modulates VCF1 instead (as if I was moving the knob to the right), it's quite annoying and unacceptable for such an expensive instrument... Is it just our units? Is this a hardware issue? Does it affect every unit?

It's been about 4 months since this bug was mentioned here on the forum, I really hope Arturia can fix this issue in a firmware update!

Kind regards,

Druid

Very keen to know myself when we can expect the new update.

Definitely experiencing this glitch also. It seems to be a lot of us.

It's a firmware bug, so it should be consistent across all units.

Still waiting for that Matrix Brute firmware update!  :'(

Hoping that Arturia will make us happy by fixing the remaining (but imho quite serious) bugs this year.

Also have that hope. It has been a long time. Of course they have three new products now.

Agree ... and since the Rack-Brute seems to be absolutely bug-free from the start ... they could give the Matrix Brute some more love  ;)

I would settle out of court for a complimentary MiniBrute 2s.  ;D
