The Keystep looks to be an awesome piece of kit at an affordable price. How many external units of hardware can it control simultaneously? Can you give some examples of potential set ups? I have a Microbrute, a Novation Circuit and Arturia software versions of ARP, SEM, Prophet and Minimoog on both iPad and Macbook. In addition I have an Akai Rhythm Wolf so would be interested to know how the Keystep would best be utilised with my other equipment. Also which further Arturia purchases will enhance what I already have?

I'm not from Arturia, but am interested in this new product.  I'm keen to get discussion rolling.

Reading the info available currently, it has three modes which I'm not sure whether they can run simultaneously.

The literature says it can feed two midi channels with the sequencer, so you can control as many midi devices as you own, over two channels.  But it only has one sequencer on it, so you chain as many midi devices onto it as you have but they will all play the same thing.  You can also use the cv and gate outs to control one device that uses those signals, but again it will the same thing.  Not that that is bad, I send the same sequence to upto three synths at times, each detuned from the other, though usually it's monosynths doing that.

Being primarily a drum machine, the Rhythm Wolf wouldn't really benefit from the KeyStep.  The arp would be great to run the bass synth.

So given your gear, I'd look at it like you have 4 sequences to run 6 instruments, 4 of which are software.  The two hardware synths are mono's, so I'd run them from the Circuit given it's lower note per step count.  It seems like a waste to run a mono synth from the KeyStep sequencer considering it's 8 notes per step capability.  Use that with one of your polysynths.

You are welcome.  I was mulling over why they would make it so that it sent midi data on two channels.  It occurred to me that could be so that one channel takes care of the sequencer and the other the arppegiator.  But I am guessing.  Perhaps someone from Arturia could help out with some more detail?

Hi I thought I'd jump on this post if it's ok. If not I'll create a new post.

I bought keystep to save and recall sequences from my korg minilogue and eventually tether it to a juno o6 (modded with midi) that's current;y in the shop…and slaved from a drumbrute.

Without worrying about the juno (for now)
I basically want to have the drumbrute synced to the minilogue and be able to save and recall the sequences from the keystep.

I have a midi thru box and am a noob at getting this to work. Having no success. PLease help on how to connect and how to program keystep.

Set your Minilogue to internal clock.  Run that to you MIDI splitter. Run one output on the splitter to the DrumBrute and one to the Keystep.  Set the DrumBrute and Keystep to MIDI sync.  Sorted.
