Title: BSP crashes Cubase 8 Pro
Post by: Greyscales on August 03, 2015, 07:53:10 pm
When BSP plays along with Cubase it crashes the DAW after about 5min. every single time.My settings are exactly like it was shown in the tutorial on how to setup the BSP inside Cubase with channel filtering and all that.
My Hardware setup in the studio is pretty hefty and there are a bunch of USB Connections going into my computer i.e. Minibrute,MophoX4,System-1,TR-8,Little Phatty,Kontrol S,Maschine,Ipad.
i have two additionell PCI USB adapter in my PC and 2 USB Hubs with power connection.i tried several different USB ports with the BSP but its always the same, after a few minutes Cubase freezes.
test project contains only two tracks, one routed to the first BSP sequencer, the second to the second sequencer.i tried several destinations, like several different VST and several External Instruments but he outcome is always the same, everything goes fine for about 5 min, than Cubase freeze

any idea of what could be wrong here or any idea how to fix this would be highly appreciated

hi,BSP is synced as slave, project length is 4 bars, cycle is on in the transport bar so the 4 bars play as a loop.i installed the latest firmware right before my post yesterday but it didn't fixed my problems.

after further testing yesterday i noticed that as long as i only use one sequencer of the BSP everything is fine.i created one sequence pressed play and the loop plays without any problem,as soon as i use another track in Cubase and route it to the second sequencer of BSP problem start.it runs for about 5 min then Vubase freezes.

i will test my setup this evening with Ableton 9 to see if the problem is related to my PC Configuration

Hi Greyscales,
could you tell me which is your OS, please? The BSP is synced via usb, midi? Are the sequences playing or you use the BSP just for midi conversion?

hi Valentin
Cubase Version is Cubase 8 Pro 8.0.20
OS is Windows 7 64 bit

BSP is synced via USB
Sequences are indeed playing

So i changed the connection between BSP and Cubase from USB to Midi, used a phone charger to power the BSP and jammed for about 2 hours without any crashes or freezes.
then went back to the USB connection and freeze after about 5 min.

i will test the same setup as mentioned inside Abelton 9 in the next days

This happens to me as well with a PC and Cubase.

Cubase 5 crashes without even playing the beatstep. Just having it plugged in and switched on freezes Cibase :( This makes me upset.

No Audio tracks or VST plug-ins running inside Cubase- just MIDI tracks.

My specs:
Windows 7 ULTIMATE
i7-2600 3.4 GHz (4 cores)
8GB ram

Cubase 5.5.3 Build 651.

Hi you must have the BSP connected before you launch cubase  otherwise the driver will make cubase crash

by the way, it also crashes Live8 and 9. Congrats to your developers: I saw computers (not mine 8))filled with some kind of savage soft and the only one who manages to crash Live is yours!

I've had this thing for several weeks now, and used it exclusively with Live 9. It hasn't crashed Live a single time.

Hi terrym,

If I did not have the BSP before Cubase launched, I wouldn't be able to use it at all. That's not the problem.

So far this machine has been a total vibe killer. I'm using it now via MIDI only, which is very annoying.

I'll probably end up selling it soon, I'm sure Arturia will be releasing a new one soon enough anyway.

i just fixed that issue by messing with my midi interface routing..finally, it wasn't bsp default.

Hi kri ,what is your set up?  if the BSP is crashing it normally the connection is lost to the driver on the mac

I have the same problem with my BSP I got a couple days ago, which is especially frustrating, because I like the workflow of the machine very much.

my setup: Live 8, Win7 64bit, BSP connected to PC via USB, Dark Energy II via CV, MFB 503 via MIDI out of the BSP. Audio Interface is Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 (firewire).

BSP is updated to the latest firmware.

it happens always after maybe half an hour. live actually doesn't crash, but the beatstep "freezes" with a stuttering loop sound. then I press stop on the BSP and it stops, but won't start again. if I try to unselect sync in the Ableton MIDI preferences, then Live freezes until I disconnect the beatstep. the only way to get it working again so far is to restart both the BSP and Live.
I haven't tried it yet to connect the Beatstep via DIN MIDI cable with the audio interface, but even if it works, I can't use the MIDI out of the interface for other stuff anymore, which is not a good solution.

please help me because I really don't want to return this thing, because otherwise it is a pretty awesome device! :/

I have the latest firmware and yeah, it will crash Cubase very quickly for me if i set it up to sync with the BSP. Also, if syncing it and then outputting clock (clock out) from the BSP the clock output is like 1000BPM, if cubase is @ 120BPM.
The gate outs does not run crazy fast like that though, they seem to be syncing with the tempo.

I really hope this is fixed within the next update because it renders this device pretty much useless for me and i bet many other people.

I'm on Cubase 8 Pro, Windows 7 x64. Let me know if i should check / test something.

Hi, any chance of you doing a screenshot of your sync setup in cubase just to see if you have it setup correctly .

Sure:

and http://piclair.com/data/o0s40.jpg

I tried again after a restart and again it will hang cubase completely after 4 minutes or so if i press play and then stop playback a few times.. i have to press ctrl+alt+del to close down cubase. it has never happened before (when not using BSP)

Hi bemushroomed,

Are your clock set up properly ? What's gear are you syncing ? You can choose in the MCC 3 clock speed (1 step, 24ppqn or 48 ppqn). I have checked the output clock when the BSP is slave (Cubase session at 120BPM) and it's in time (not like 1000BPM).

Same problem here.  Running Cubase Pro 8.0.3 under W7/64.  BSP is connected via USB and slaving off the Cubase clock.  Crashes Cubase every single time after about 4 minutes. I run a 4 bar loop with the drum seq pushing Battery 4, Seq 1 pushing Trillian and 2 pushing Omnisphere.  Works great... for about 4 minutes.  Then Cubase freezes.  It will unfreeze if I unplug the BSP.  Otherwise its a hard reboot.  This is very disappointing...

Just wanted to note that i'm also having the same cubase issues. As well as sync issues. While the beats are playing relatively in time...they are a hair off from all my other DAW VSTs/hasrdware making it sound like a dj trainwreck. I'm about to return this actually if it's not addressed soon.
