Title: Changing playback direction knocks sequence out of sync
Post by: noCore on July 22, 2015, 07:56:04 am
Is there a way to keep the playback quantized to the tempo when changing the sequence playback direction?

Currently changing the direction (forward/reverse/alternate) knocks the timing out of sync, making what could otherwise be a fun feature, pretty much useless (unless you are a robot, maybe).

This was a huge gripe for me with the original Beatstep, which lead me to sell off the two I had bought. Really hoping this would have been resolved with the Pro. If it could remain quantized to the tempo (regardless of int/usb/midi/clk) at 16th notes, it would keep the sequence running on track, and be fun to jam out with.

also - is there a way to retrigger the sequence?  (this feature should also remain quantized to the tempo - again, 16th notes ideally - or hey, maybe making it adjustable from off/32/16/8/4/2/1 could be an added feature?)

I haven't tried this on mine so I can't comment.

But I agree this was an annoying aspect of the original beatstep.

It would be helpful to know if you updated the firmware when you got it, as that may correct the issue.

also - really missing the random option.

triplet is kind of useless to me/my workflow...

would it be possible to make that 4th option selectable... triplet or random ... ?   that would be rad.

There is already a random knob.

I think noCore means random as in the sq1, on each clock step randomly choose a step from the sequencer to play

I think it would be more musical if when going from normal to reverse it did not happen instantly but when the sequence gets to the last beat so that the number of beats to the bar is the same.

^ this.

...just quantized on the step would be fine, to keep things on track.

hi,
no, last release did not do it on mine. No matter which resolution i was using te reverse or alternate one pattern, the sequence triggered when hitting the pad.
But not everything is lost: say you are playing at 165bpm in 1/16, the day you will be able to sync a reversed seq by hitting the pad at the very right moment, then you'll become the ultimate King of Tempo  ;)

Don't understand why it doesn't work, its not a technical big deal...
Its a really useful function, we really need it !!!!
Please Arturia, its time to fix it !
