Yesterday, I bought a BeatStep. I'm checking it out, and it seems really, really sweet! But when I hold Channel and tap a pad to change the MIDI channel, nothing changes. If I change to channel 2, it still sends data on channel 1. If I press Channel again, the second pad lights up, but it is not sending on a different MIDI channel.
I'm using Windows 7 32 bit in BootCamp on a MacBook 15. I use FL Studio, but the problem presents itself elsewhere, including MIDI OX. I just updated the firmware 5 minutes ago, and the problem still persists.
Is it a hardware problem? Do I need to exchange it for another BeatStep, or can it be solved?
Thanks!

Search the forum there is an answer and fix for this problem
you have to set up the global channel in the MMC
then it works

Thanks a bunch, Kev!
I'm newer in the music scene, and this is the first piece of hardware I've had to really deal in MIDI with (I have a KeyLab 25, but this seems deeper in MIDI). I get the basics, but I dont fully understand how it all works. And I know what MMC is (Using FL, it took me FOREVER to figure that out and get the KeyLab transports working!), but I don't know what the global channel is. How do I do this magic MIDI wizardry you speak of? XD

Hi read the thread in beatstep tech look for my question
Change midi channel in Sequencer mode in real time via controller
there you will find the answer and also a file to download
that will configure your beatstep to change the midi channel
hope this helps
cheers

Thanks guys! I figured it out. Searched the forums like you said. I had to set everything to slave to the global channel, then it worked!
