Title: Help!! Keyboards with poly aftertouch!!
Post by: Colin on September 06, 2004, 11:41:00 am
Hi am totally new to the soft synth scene but after many years of listening to the great Vangelis I have decided to purchase the Arturia CS-80V soft synth for use with cubase sx.

I understand that to use this software you need a midi controller with 'polyphonic' aftertouch [i have a video of Vangelis demonstrating this on a real cs-80] but most controllers i have looked at only have touch reponse or touch sensitive keys.

Is it common for controllers to only use touch sensitive keys?

Can anyone out there help me in deciding/recommending  what keyboard controller is ideal to get the best out of this Vst plugin.

I am not a rich man but would rather get a good controler that will last me many happy years, rather than a really cheap onethat i will resent buying later.

but after saying that if anyone knows of any good and 'cheap' controllers out there,  then I would be extremely Appreciative and grateful to anyone of you for any help or advice on this matter..........thanks ...........Colin.

I'll be realistic:

BUILD ONE YOURSELF!!!

anyone building keyboards isn't interested anymore in building p-AT keyboards, they are costy opposed to low sale quantities...these companies prefer keeping on building expensive toys rather than musical instruments....Ensoniq and GEM may last some more years but then, when they will crash , where will you find the spare parts???

I just tried my new GEM S2 today with CS80V, it's a bomb.
At the same time even if some sounds in this workstation
are a bit old, some others are still very good, and the keyboard
is just proper to play the CS80V with polyaftertouch.

Also, a Yamaha DX7 FM synth produces poly AT signals, and you get the benefit of a handy built-in hardware synthesiser as well

DX7 had only channel aftertouch, and without any sliders and knobs it would be the last choice for a controller.
