Title: Several questions about licensing
Post by: wfasano on May 06, 2009, 12:26:01 pm
Hi, I work both on Mac and Pc:

- on Mac with a Pro Tools with an ilok
- on PC with a Cubase with the Usb key Licenser

what's more, in a short while I'll need to reinstall the application on a Pc
(I need to reinstall the operating system XP)

What is the correct licensing procedure I should follow?
Is the product registering part of the licensing or not?

Thanks, w

You can simply transfer your license from Soft-eLicenser to USB-eLicenser, as described in the guide (http://www.arturia.com/evolution/kb_upload/documents/Syncrosoft_License_Transfer_EN.pdf). Your Steinberg dongle will be suitable for that purpose. The Analog factory will tehn run on any machine you plug the dongle into.

Once your license is backup on the dongle, and your personal presets elsewhere (refer to your favorite User's Manual), you can safely reinstall the synthesizer directly from the update (http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/downloads/updates.html).

Registering (http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/community/my-account.html) gives you access to Technical Support, Beta Test Zone, license management, and great more to come (soon).

thanks antoine for the quick answer

still a couple of doubts:

1. will the ilok ever a part of the arturia licensing or is it just a different technology? better said, if I didn't have the Steinberg Dongle, could I authorize the software via ilok?
2. and then, will pro tools read automatically the steinberg dongle that allows mw to use the arturia?
3. why I have to reinstall via update and not via installation disc?

thanks again, w

1. Negative, PACE iLok and Syncrosoft eLicenser are different and concurrent technologies, mutually incompatible, therefore no way to transfer a license from one type of dongle to the other. Changing the protection system is not a trivial task, and there are so much parameters to be considered. AFAIK, Arturia will not switch to PACE system in any future, we will stick to Syncrosoft (USB or Soft).

2. Yes, of course.

3. The Updates page always list the latest version available; thus it is the best way to (re)install your synthesizers, from scratch or for update.

thanks, everything clear

obviously I assume that ilok and Steinberg dongle can both stay connected on mac and pc without conflicts,
allowing me for example to use arturia AF ion protools (that requires ilok),
am I right?

Sure, they can "run" concurrently in the same application.
