where to get ahold of a manual?

its difficult to figure any of this companies stuff out without a manual.

any help here?

also - what is the difference from the stand alone and the protools versions?

You mean no pdf manual? Well if you have a legal copy you can read from the paper manual .
Anyway the difference between standalone and pt7 is that standalone runs without a host while pt7 version needs protools host
