Title: How to send program changes to XG general midi

i'm terribly confused trying to send program changes to an XG general midi yamaha synth
the synth requires,

MSB =0
LSB = variable
PROGRAM = variable

i really dont know how to program a knob how to do this :P

(i've tried various things including having 1 knob for each of the above.)
