Recently started using Pigments and I'm blown away by it. So very lovely. I've been playing with the Granular engine a lot, making things with big grains to create interesting rhythms. Some of these grains have a real strong percussive quality that would be great to use to modulate something else.
For now, I'm using the E1 and E2 grain triggers to trigger Env2 or 3. That's alright, but I'd like to use those envelopes for other things.
Here's how I imagine this working:
- Add "Env Follower" to the Envelopes tab
- Include "Audio Source" parameter that allows you to pull the signal from different points in the audio chain
- Include standard EF params as well

An envelope follower would be a great modulator supplement. Especially after we have got the sampler modules.
This feature does'nt require an external audio input, but It could be supplemented with an external audio input like requested here, if that request became a reality:

An external audio input should also include an envelope follower, if the input became a reality.

Agreed. "External Input" could be an "Audio Source." And yeah, having an external input without an envelope follower in a synth like Pigments would be silly. :)

WOuld be nice so I could use CV signals as modulators, but I think it is the VST protocol that does not allow this. You can have audio input as sidechain on effects only. I know that maschine and other vstis have an input for recording, but not sure it could be used in real time to modulate cutoff, pitch, volume or gates/triggers.

I'm completely in. An envelope follower as a modulation based on an external input would be huge.
