Sync issue work around - Cubase and Ableton
« on: December 09, 2015, 08:54:23 pm »
Hey guys -

Ever since the update I've had a BSP that will not sync. I know this is an ongoing issue, but it's been quite some time with what amounts to a brick sitting on my desk.

I run this via USB into Cubase.

I've also tested it in ableton with the same timing problems existing in both.

I use it for my tanzbar as well as the multiple analog synths that i have in my setup so it's not just controlling VSTs.

I've had "some" response from artutia's tech support telling me:

1st that it's a known issue that that i should roll back my firmware...which i find strange as it worked prior to installing the new 1.3 version. This makes me very nervous.
2nd that theu have a dedicated engineer attempting to fix the issue is a future update...which does us no good now.

I've seen a couple threads...but nothing specifically calling out USB.

Any thoughts?

my testing:

I have been using the BSP to play a drum rack in ableton live, without synching anything, just setting the bpm on the BSP

I also have traktor decks audio output fed into ableton live.

the BSP is not synced to ableton and any clips

traktor is not synched to anything either.

so to match the BSP and traktor, I'm manualy beatmatching them.

The outcome is that setting traktor 0.02bpm quicker than the whole value on the BSP keeps it matched.

[edit]
left it running with traktor 0.02bpm faster and came back to it later.
both the BSP and traktor were still beatmatched.

conclusion: the BSP is running 0.02bpm faster than a whole BPM value.
[/edit]

This testing also matches up with the average bpm that ableton shows if it is taking the bpm sync from the bsp

what would be ideal... is have a bpm offset setting in the firmware

That sounds more like latency than a sync issue.

It's not latency. At least not on my end.

If there is a consistent difference, then the sync is perfect, there is just a delay.
If there is a difference of X ms, then in a few minutes it becomes Z ms, THEN that is a sync issue.

Sigh...here's responses directly from arturia.

There is always one who thinks they are a know it all.

Cool story bro.
You do realize that there are tons of people with no sync issues, right?
And tons of people who installed the newest FW and reported all over the internet that it fixed their problems?

Did you try downgrading? And is your situation any better?
