i just have one question when does it go on sale
-
i am so fucking pissed off about this release. i don't give a shit about the new faceplate and side panels, but the addition of the sequencer? really!?!? HOW FUCKING HARD WOULD THAT BE TO ADD TO THE EXISTING MINIBRUTE?
HOW ABOUT SUPPORTING YOUR ORIGINAL CUSTOMERS LIKE Mg DID FOR THE LITTLE PHATTY!?!? Apparently it wasn't THAT hard for them to add functionality to their exisiting synths without fucking over the consumer.
Why not provide an upgrade? Really!
-
you know - fuck it. i'd rather sell this and wait for the new odyssey.
-
Omg. SE is so ugly. It looks like a DIY project. I know that is petty but there is a new breed of consumer out there for the Brutes. They dont care what synths looked like in 1972, they want something cool like the dark looks and rubbery knob goodness of the orig minibrute. All black was awesome. The bass station2 is so ugly i was putting up with waiting for my replacement mini brute now for three months rather than exchanging for the BS2 - even though BS2 has preset ability!
Of course once the micro came out with a better sequencer you knew the mini was lacking then!
My minibrute's arp was my problem. The arp would would run about ten minutes and then crash the whole synth and it would stay lit but be otherwise dead, no sound. I got it for xmas from MgAudio Toronto and now it is mid march and it still hasn't been replaced. It's kind of a nightmare. I hope if they re-run the minibruteSE more than this current 3,000 units that they make one in black... Or just quietly add the sequencer to the regular mini. Idk. I just run the minibrute off steppolyarp from an ipad anyway... when i had one! Arturia, Please get Mgaudio Toronto some more units!!!
-
To tell you the truth i thought sequencer ability was going to come in a software update. The current silly version on the hold was not really doing it. Guess it's a hardware limitation?
-
The knobs in the Arp/Sequencer sequence look identical, so if the original and SE are technically alike maybe it is possible to load the SE OS into the original MiniBrute.
Or am I taking complete nonsense here?
-
Looks great...i have no space for keys or desktop models...Id love a rack version though and Im not alone
So saw the keys off, screw on some rack ears and Ill pay the same ;)
-
Man, Arturia is pissing me off with this attitude. Please make an official statement saying that the MiniBrute will never get a firmware update, it's better than having your costumers tricked and have their hardware replaced with new versions every 8 months. Then I can sell my MiniBrute and get a MicroBrute already. This is ridiculous.
-
Ouch! Arturia have seriously pissed off a hell of a lot of people.
-
tbh i don't see why people are so angry.
obviously, the hardware and controls of the mb se are identical to the original mb - and the same sequencer functionality will doubtlessly be released for the regular mb as a fw update, which we have been waiting for for so long.
anything else would be madness on arturia's part...
-
I really hope, that Arturia publishes the Sequencer as Firmware upgrade for the existing Minibrute. I'd understand it, if the will hold the upgrade back until the SE is sold (though I think that 3000 units is quite a big series for a company like Arturia).
Also I urgently hope, that the external gate will be used as clock for the sequencer and/or the arpeggiator.
-
amen, florian, amen!
i don't see why they should wait for the se with the fw update, though. release it as soon as it's ready, i would say. and i can't see why it wouldn't allow you to switch between arp and seq. the arp is pretty nice, after all. or at least it will be, as soon as it can be triggered via the external gate input. :)
btw it's kind of funny to see a synth guru like yourself being labelled an 'apprentice'! :)

Hi MCX,
Please note that although the keyboard issue affected only a small part of two specific production batches, we did replace *all* keybeds in our entire stock, and our distributors did the same. So you should be able to buy a new "original" MiniBrute with confidence :)
-
@thierry: thanks for clearing that up (although i didn't quite see how the kb thing comes into play into the mb vs mbse thing, anyway - the two seem to use the same keybed).
while you're at it: could you please also confirm that in terms of hardware, mb and mbse are identical, and that there will be a fw update for the mb that will incorporate mbse's sequencing capabilities? do you perhaps even have an eta for that update?
-
was this recall compulsary or voluntary as my local retailer doesnt seem to give a shit about customers as they are very unhelpful there demo models barley work and they have a price promise pledge but when i tried to price match an item they spent almost 20 minutes discussing the price match then told me sorry they cant do it which annoyed my as at the time was on a lunch break i guess ill just steer clear of them
-
@bartleby,
The analog path is definitely identical, for the rest I am not able to announce any future sequencing capability for the original MiniBrute or arp capability for the SE, sorry.
Those are two -slightly- different beasts !
@mcx
This systematic keybed replacement includes our stocks, our distributors' stock and most dealers' stocks. Sadly, we are not able to have Chuck Norris check each retailer in the world. It seems we should at least send him to yours, though.
-
@thierry: thanks for getting back so quickly. quite a bummer, though.
i'm afraid that marketing strategy is going to alienate a lot of customers.
here's hoping that at least the wait for the mb fw update already announced by bruno (with local off etc, and hopefully the ability to clock the arp/seq with analog gate signals) will soon be over...

Buy a MicroBrute and watch what you can when you change the note priority (thanks to Mark Doty): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3ij2os8i9w (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3ij2os8i9w)
I guess you will not be angry anymore? ;D

I'm really dissapointed. Releasing the SE before releasing a firmware update adding a sequencer function is mean, man. Arturia knows that MB customers are craving for a sequencer and instead updating the firmware they release a cosmetic update of the MB with the sequencer function added.
I was thinking into buying a Microbrute to complement my Minibrute (btw has not any issue with keybeds or anything else) but now I will considerate another option. I will not support a company that leave their customers alone once they buy their products.

Vote with your wallet guys, it's the only thing these people understand! Never buy another Arturia product again.
There are lots of other hardware/software guys out there who deserve your support more.
And any chance you get, spread the word about the terrible way Arturia have dealt with Minibrute owner's requests.
It's that simple.

Any good option to the Micro with CV input?

spot on. a shame it's come to this, but spot on indeed.

Relax guys ... no need to be so pushy and so angry.
The MiniBrute SE has just been announced and is not shipping yet, let's wait and see.
-
Do not Shoot the Piano Player; Elektron released the Analog Key at the same time as the update to the A4 ....
Aruria is one of the first companies that give access to analog, there is something unthinkable a few years. :-\
-
and hey, we can all just buy beatsteps at the end of the month and sequence our original Minibrutes to our hearts content!! ;)

BeatStep uses a different type of step sequencing, which ends up complementing microBrute/MiniBruteSE sequencer.
I was honestly a little bit disappointed to see the Arpeggiator mode gone from MiniBruteSE.
I hope that, eventually, in the future, a firmware update allows both modes on-board or at least the choice to set it to one or the other.
-
Will the Beatsteps sequencer (combined with the Minibrute) work the same way as the SE or Microbrute sequencer? Will you be able to write and then transpose the sequences via the Minibrute keyboard?
...I'm new to synths and sequencers, hope I'm making sense.
-
Hi there.
Anyone know if the SE sequencer will have a hold function that can be turned on similar to the Microbrute?
-
@mcx: I read somewhere it was going on sale "End May"
Here is Canada it might be end May 2015 as we always get stuff last >:(
I also read somewhere it had (much-needed) "Improved build quality" but couldn't see it
Question: will the SE sequencer be synched with MIDI CLOCK IN (seems the bare minimum) and will it generate MIDI OUT notes (not the case currently on the Arpegiator)
-
go play around with a dsi tetra for a few weeks then these devices will be pure bliss. damn who cares how they look, it's the sound what we want, i mean it's not gonna be your damn girlfriend now is it
-
I just bought a Minibrute SE and I love it. Just wanted to say that. I love it. I'm not even sure how much I will use the sequencer that some of you have been banging on about although I would have NEVER used the arpeggiator. Surely the thing to concentrate on is the sound of the thing. It's properly analogue and nuanced in a way you just don't hear very often any more. I'm not going to add anything to the MB vs MBSE debate here other than to suggest that we focus on what's great about both of them. The sound.
-
Thank you Arturia for making me fall in love with my MinibruteSE, well your minbrute... last synth I bought was a Roland SH101 which I sold in 1990 for £50... silly boy, But I love this and hope to keep it for decades to come, had to get the SE, after a few weeks going through videos & reviews this was the best choice for me.
May I ask a question about the sequencer? I haven't got a proper drum-machine as yet to sync up with the MiniBrute as yet but I do have my old Boss DR-55 and via cv-gate in I'm able to fire the MiniBrute on each step with a single note but the sequencer doesn't play it's notes unless I hit a key, which is out of time/sync, I'm sure I'll get it in the end via that PC-app connection tool perhaps... or the DR-55 might be too unsophisticated to run the MiniBrute's sequencer, either way I'm hoping to get a Roland TR 606 and hope I could use the MiniBrute with that, anyway all good experimentation, thank you, wonderful machine.
