I don't get it - why do I have to have either sequencer or arp turned on?
Use case - I hit record on my loop station which the Keystep is slaved to. This starts the Keystep, so I either have to have an empty sequence running with "play along" mode enabled, or turn off the arp before I can start playing, if I don't want arps.
What gives?

I came to this forum to ask the same question, did you find an answer?
I just want to play the keys normally and sometimes turn on the arp without having to stop and start my entire liveset ???

Configure the Keystep in the Midi control center to not start on incoming midi clock.
That's how I've setup mine slaved to the Keystep Pro - It will still listen to the midi clock and arp/seq will be in sync when you hit the play button :)
